Hull Bus Restorers

Hull Bus Restorers was formed in August 2007 to restore their first bus.  We are now a group of seven (Alistair, Keith, Les, Luke, Mark, Phil and Sean) having gained three new members by joining with the previous Hull 245 Group.  The first bus to be restored is ex Kingston upon Hull Corporation Transport's 180.  It is GAT 180D, a 1966 Roe B44D bodied Leyland Panther bus.  The second bus acquired for preservation is ex East Yorkshire's 188 which is LAG 188V, a 1980 Leyland National 2.  Our third bus is a 1969 ex Kingston upon Hull Corporation Transport Roe bodied Leyland Atlantean.  It is PRH 255G and is currently in the three tone green livery of Citilink.  The fourth bus to be preserved is WKH 526X, an ex East Yorkshire 1981 ECW bodied Bristol VR.

 The National 2 and Panther have both successfully passed their MOT tests this week and are now ready for the rally season.  Since the last update the interior of the National 2 has been given a tidy up with lower side panels recovered and painted.  The floor and seat frames have been painted and the saloon heating repaired.  A side window has been replaced with the original emergency escape window and the wheels have been repainted.  Below are a few pictures (you can see full size pictures of these in the gallery).

Work is continuing on the VR but we expect it to be quite some time until it is back on the road in original NBC poppy red.  The worn out air tank under the cab floor has been replaced after we finally managed to source a replacement.  Some welding has been done to the floor support structure and the front upper deck windows have been replaced so that they have the correct opening top sections.  A couple of side windows have also been replaced so that they also have the correct opening sections as the bus had when new.  A new interior roof dome has been fitted to replace the damaged one that was in the bus when it was purchased.  The nearside panelling is complete but the offside still needs to be clad in aluminium.  The next main job is to replace the lower deck floor after we had to remove it due to rot.  Below are a few pictures (you can see full size pictures of these in the gallery).

The bodywork of the Atlantean is also undergoing extensive repair with body supports being repaired and replaced as necessary.  The front body structure is currently being replaced due to the amount of rotten metal work and wood work in the frame of the bus.  Most of the nearside has been completed with the front currently under repair.  A new radiator has been sourced and fitted.  Below are a few pictures (you can see full size pictures of these in the gallery).
